Ingalls Girls, Fowler Boys Advance to Title Game
Hays, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The two top seeds in the Class 1A, Division II State Basketball Tournament in Hays were able to remain undefeated, as the Ingalls Lady Bulldogs move one step closer to a championship with a 53-42 victory over the Wilson Lady Dragons. On the boys side, the Fowler Goldbugs were able to hold off Sharon Springs 75-63.
Ingalls would be in a battle in the first half with the Lady Dragons from Wilson. It would be a 13-10 Lady Bulldog lead after the first quarter, and a 21-19 advantage at half. An 18-5 third quarter run would give Ingalls all they needed to move one step closer to the state championship game. The Lady Bulldogs were able to survive with foul trouble late in the game, as three players finished with four fouls. Ingalls (25-0) got 22 points from Kaisha Batman and a 10 point, 10 rebound effort from Rebecca Wyatt. Wilson (21-3) was led by Antjelli Pfannenstiel with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Karlie Steinle with 11. Ingalls will play at 4 pm Saturday against Norwich, a 32-29 winners over Golden Plains. Wilson faces Golden Plains in the third place game at 12 pm Saturday.
Fowler got off to an outstanding start, leading 22-8 after the first quarter, and took a 40-25 halftime lead on the Wildcats. The Goldbugs were able to put it on cruise control, as they knocked down 10 three’s in the game. Both teams shot 27-55 from the field for the ballgame. Fowler (25-0) had four players in double figures, led by Jett Reese with 24 points and 14 rebounds, Taylin Bird with 16, 14 points from Tem Shetley and Ty Clark had 13. Sharon Springs (19-6) got 16 from Eli Kuhlman and Cayden Daily with 12. The Goldbugs will face the seventh-seeded Axtell Eagles for the state championship game Saturday at 6:15 pm. Axtell thumped White City 56-29. Sharon Springs faces the Huskies in the third place game at 2 pm Saturday.
