Ingalls Girls Remain Undefeated; Dighton Girls Fall to Norwich

Hays, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The top four seeds advanced to the semi-finals of the Class 1A, Division II State Basketball tournament on Wednesday at Gross Memorial Coliseum. For the two area teams, the top seeded Ingalls Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated with a 54-27 victory over Southern Coffey County, while the Dighton Lady Hornets ended their season in a 56-35 setback to Norwich.

Ingalls did what any major favorite would do. That is put their opponent away early. They did just that, leading by 21-5 margin after the first quarter, and led 34-14 at the break. The Lady Bulldogs would continue to put the pressure on in the third quarter on Southern Coffey County, outscoring the Titans 11-2, en route to their 24th victory of the season. Ingalls (24-0) was led by Tara Whipple’s 14 points and Rebecca Wyatt’s 10 points. They had 10 different player score. The Lady Titans (10-14) had a team-high six points from Breanna Isch. Ingalls will face Wilson, who improved to 21-2 with a 53-42 win over Baileyville B&B.

After playing the second seed Norwich tightly in the first quarter, the second and third periods were rough for Dighton. It was 13-12 Eagles after the first quarter, but runs of 17-4 and 13-6 would prove to be daggers for the Lady Hornets, as they trailed going into the fourth period 43-22. Both teams played to a 13-13 draw in the final eight minutes, as Norwich cruises to the semi-finals. Dighton (16-8) got 14 from Shambrey Budd and 12 from Leslie Speer. Norwich (23-1) got a double-double from Hayley Poljansek with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Bailey Poe had a game-high 20 points. the Lady Eagles will play Golden Plains (21-2), a 58-43 winner over Hope.
