The Dodge City High School basketball teams lost both games they played against Woodward (OK) on Tuesday night.

The Lady Demons struggled offensively in their 40-25 loss to the Boomers, shooting just 6-of-41 (14.6%) from the field. There were some solid individual performances for Dodge City, as senior guard Gianna Torrez scored 10 points, and Senior forward Tatum Steiner had seven points and 13 rebounds inside.

For Steiner, it is the second straight game with double figure rebounds, as she pulled down 10 in a double-double effort against Junction City.

In the boy’s game, it was freshman Kadon Gaines of Woodward who stole the show. He scored 45 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the 91-58 win. The Boomers outscored Dodge City 26-7 in the fourth quarter, in a game that was kept close for a long time until the drastic final period.

Gaines scored his 45 points with just 28 field goal attempts, and six free throw attempts. He was 7-of-11 from behind the three-point line. He also impacted the game on the defensive end with three blocks and two steals.

Dodge City was led by junior guard Ty Scheck and sophomore guard Elliot Williams who each scored 11. Junior forward Yaasir Mohammed played his best game of the young season off the bench with eight points and seven rebounds.

Both Demon basketball teams drop to 1-3 and turn their focus toward Friday night when they wrap up their December schedule with a road trip to Lakin. Those games tip off at 6 p.m. with pregame starting at 5:40 on Z98 (KSKZ).
