Scott City splits season-opening duals at Goodland

Goodland, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Thursday night started the year off for Scott City wresling, as they made the trip to Goodland to face the Cowboys and Cowgirls for a dual inside the Max Jones Fieldhouse. The Lady Beavers would pick up the dual win 42-28, while the Cowboys rallied to knock off Scott City 39-35.

In the girls dual, both teams gave up two forfeits apiece. Scott City would win five matches, while Goodland picked up three head to head wins. Every match would be decided by a fall or tech fall.

On the boys side, Goodland’s two forefeit wins proved to be the difference in the dual. The Cowboys would win two of the first three head to head matches before Scott City went on a big roll by winning five straight, with four by fall. Goodland would rally to win the last three head to head matches, all by fall, and pulled off the win.

Scott City will see their girls team head to WaKeeney for the Christmas City Wrestling Classic on Friday, while the boys tournament in WaKeeney will be on Saturday. It’s the first time the Beavers are headed to that tournament.
