Dodge City basketball teams get road sweep over Pratt
Both Dodge City Community College basketball teams got a road win on Wednesday night as they travelled to Pratt. The women won in blowout fashion with the final score ending 106-40. The men won 86-74 as they used a strong first half to get out to a big lead.
The women were led by Tayah Morgan who made eight three-pointers in the winning effort as she ended with 28 points. There were 12 different Conquistadors to score in the game, as Layla-J Cameron and Konstantina Mantziori were the only others to reach double figures with 16 and 15 respectively. Shorna Preston scored nine and pulled down 11 rebounds.
The men’s game was spearheaded by a first half that saw the Conqs bury eight three-pointers. Kyle Burns came off the bench for just the second time this season and contributed 16 points. Burns was 4-of-7 from deep and Mynor Strong shot it at the same rate. Strong finished with a team-high 24.
The first half saw the Conquistadors lead by as many as 20, but ended with them leading 50-35. In the second half, they never let Pratt cut it to single digits, as they made enough plays to win comfortably.
Kejuan Payne scored 11 points and had nine rebounds, while Jayse Boatwright scored 11 points to go with six rebounds and six assists.
Both teams now look to Saturday when they will host Seward. The women’s game tips off at 1 p.m. with the men starting afterwards.
