Conquistadors split road games against Cowley College

Cowley

The Dodge City Community College basketball teams made the trip to Arkansas City for their last game before Thanksgiving, as the women’s won in comfortable fashion, while the men’s team lost after an offensive explosion from Cowley.

The No. 6 ranked Conquistador women won 72-54 and were led by Tayah Morgan and Becca Unruh each scoring 14 points. The offense did not come easy early for Dodge City, as the score was just 12-6 after the first quarter. However, they managed to figure out Cowley’s defense and got out to a 32-16 halftime lead.

The Tigers could not get within striking distance in the second half, and Dodge City improved to 3-0 in KJCCC play.

In the men’s matchup, the Conquistadors struggled to stop Cowley as they had a plethora of capable scorers leading them to the 100-64 result. Avante Nichols came off the bench and scored a game high 24 points, while Marcus Whitlock had 20 for Cowley.

Dodge City got 16 points from Mynor Strong, 14 from Kyle Burns and 13 from Keshawn Brown Jr. The next highest scoring output was six points.

Both teams will return on Saturday when they host Butler with the women’s game starting at 1 p.m.
