America Recycles Day Event Scheduled for Saturday

DODGE CITY, Kansas.–Community Recycling Environmental Waste (CREW) and Keep Dodge City Beautiful has organized an America Recycles Day event that will take place on Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Jane Longmeyer Recycling Center located at 124 N 14th Ave. Attendees may stay in their vehicles while staff unload items for recycling.

Archway Recycling will be available to accept old electronics (E-Waste) – computers, VCRs, phones, desktop copiers/printers, scanners, and flat-screen televisions. If anyone has questions or needs further information on the e-waste drop-off, please contact CREW at 225-8170.

The Ford County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) mobile trailer will also be available to accept unwanted household hazardous waste such as paint products, herbicides, pesticides, cleaners, automotive products, batteries – anything that is poisonous or flammable. The mobile trailer makes convenient drop-off available in Dodge City in the spring and fall. Regular hours for the HHW program are Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at 10972 113 Road.

The Dodge City Police Department will be on-site to accept unwanted/outdated prescription medications. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Also, available the Ford County Humane Society will be accepting donations. The Humane Society will also participate in the America Recycles Day collection. Items they need are paper towels, bleach, laundry soap, Pine-Sol, Purina Naturals cat food (not grain-free), Purina One chicken and rice dog food, and cat and dog toys. CREW will be accepting flower vases for local recycling.

CREW/KDCB would also like to encourage Dodge City residents to pledge to recycle or recycle more for America Recycles Day. Items that can be recycled are newspapers, junk mail, magazines, catalogs, food & beverage tin/steel cans, aluminum cans, #1 & #2 plastic containers, flower vases corrugated cardboard, and chipboard, such as cake and cereal boxes. The revenues from the sale of recyclable materials are used to purchase public improvement items such as park benches, picnic tables, and trash receptacles.
