Holcomb boys win 3A Norton Regional, Scott City girls runner-up

Norton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–On a nice Saturday morning for regional competition, five area schools made their way to Norton’s Prairie Dog Golf Course for the Class 3A Regional Cross Country meet. Five teams from the boys and girls placed in the top three for state competition, as well as several area individuals.

Starting with the boys, Holcomb picked up the regional title with 39 points, while Lakin finished second and Scott City was the final qualifying team by placing third. Holcomb had two in the top four, as Brody Deniston was the regional champion and Landen Leonard was fourth. Lakin finished second and third respectively with Austin Ritsema and Alex Luce. Scott City got a 12th place finish from Michael Hermosillo. Cimarron qualified two runners, with Ian Harmon and Asher English finishing ninth and 10th respectively. Southwestern Heights qualified Elijah Kisner in 13th place.

On the girls side, Norton edged Scott City by five points for the regional title, while Southwestern Heights held off Holcomb by five points for the third place spot in the team race. Cimarron had the top two runners, as Janae Fugitt was the regional champion and Jyntri Wilson was second. Scott City’s Brailey Cook was sixth, Layla Kisner from Southwestern Heights was seventh, and Jenera Ardery from Holcomb placed 10th.

The Class 3A State Cross Country meet will take place at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence on Saturday, November 2.
