Garden City teen crashes into pole, arrested for driving recklessly

Garden City, Kan.–A Garden City teenager was arrested after driving recklessly and crashing into a pole early Saturday.

According to the release from the Garden City Police Department, 16-year-old Aiden Somad faces charges from the incident.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Officers of the Garden City Police Department attempted a traffic stop on an Infiniti G20 in the 2700 block of Henderson Drive after it was observed driving recklessly. The driver, identified as Somad, refused to stop and continued traveling southbound at a high rate of speed before bottoming out on Mary Street and losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle spun out in the grass and struck a light pole in the 2500 block of Henderson Drive, and the impact caused the pole to be removed from the ground and fall. Somad then ran from the vehicle before being apprehended shortly after.

Somad was arrested on numerous charges including Reckless Driving, Felony Flee and Elude, Felony Interference LEO, Hit and Run, and other traffic violations. He was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment of injuries and later released to his parents.

The investigation is ongoing.
