Holcomb boys, Scott City girls win Lakin Invitational team titles

Lakin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It may have been warmer than normal for the Lakin Invitational cross country meet on Saturday, but the times were some of the fastest times in the area this season.

On the boys side, Holcomb won the meet in dominating fashion, winning by 51 points over runner-up Meade and Lakin was third. The Longhorns had four runners in the top 10, led by Brody Deniston, who won with a time of 15:43.97. Lakin had two in the top 10, as Austin Ritsema was second with a time of 15:49.69. Meade’s Ryker Vieux was sixth in a time of 16:28.50.

For the girls, it was a convincing win for Scott City, as won by 46 over second place Holcomb. Southwestern Heights was third. Cimarron’s Janae Fugitt was the meet champion, while South Gray’s Kylie Stapleton was second. Greeley County’s Jailyn Brandl was fifth, Layla Kisner from Southwestern Heights placed sixth, Scott City’s Belle Trout was seventh, and Holcomb’s Jenera Ardery was eighth.
