Garden City Police arrest man on DUI charges after crash

Garden City, Kan.–A Garden City man was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into a building early Monday morning. According to the release, 22-year-old Joseph Huerta faces charges from the incident.

Just before 2:30 a.m., Officers of the Garden City Police Department responded to the intersection of 8th and Fulton Streets where a vehicle struck a building. The investigation revealed that Huerta was driving southbound on 8th Street at a high rate of speed and was unable to stop at the stop sign and struck the corner of 202 W. Fulton Street (Pro-Tek Dent & Windshield Repair). Huerta ran from the scene and was subsequently located in the area before being transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Through further investigation, it was determined Huerta was driving under the influence and was taken into custody. Huerta was lodged in the Finney County Jail for DUI and Duty to Report Accidents.

The Garden City Fire Department and City Inspections division assisted with the incident.
