Garden City man hurt in rollover crash on Kansas Avenue
Garden City, Kan.–A Garden City man was seriously hurt following a rollover crash in Garden City Saturday morning.
Just after 10 a.m., a Garden City Officer was traveling eastbound on Kansas Avenue when they observed a Mitsubishi Eclipse driving westbound at a high rate of speed. As the Officer slowed to turn around and initiate a traffic stop on the Eclipse, the Eclipse struck a Chevrolet Traverse that was also traveling westbound. The impact caused the Eclipse to spin and become airborne, rolling over on its roof, and sliding on the roadway before coming to a rest near the entrance to Taco Bell.
The driver of the Eclipse, identified as 42-year-old Marcos Martin, had to be extricated from the vehicle by Fire personnel and transported to St. Catherine Hospital. Martin was later flown to Wichita due to the extent of his injuries. The occupants of the Traverse were uninjured.
The area was closed for three-and-a-half hours as Officers completed the crash investigation, and the Garden City Fire Department and Garden City Street and Traffic divisions assisted with the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
