Scott City girls win Ness City cross country invite, boys third, volleyball splits at Ulysses

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–As postseason competition is approaching quickly, Scott City saw their cross country team run in Ness City on Thursday, and volleyball compete in Ulysses in a GWAC triangular.

At the Ness City Country Club, Scott City saw the girls win the meet, and the boys take home a third place finish. Starting with the girls, the Lady Beavers won with 22 points, with Ness City coming in second with 47 points. Scott City was led by Belle Trout’s fourth place finish in a time of 22:05.10, followed by Brailey Cook in seventh with a time of 22:24.10 and Halle Erazo was eighth in a time of 22:30.40. Maci Lara was 16th (23:42.40), Hannah Winter 17th (23:58.00) and Kami Winderlin was 28th (25:21.80). For the boys, they finished third as a team with 67 points. Quinter won the meet with 43 points and Pratt-Skyline was second with 55 points. Michael Hermosillo placed sixth with a time of 17:47.50, while Logan Stoppel was 11th in a time of 18.17.50. Kaston Wren was 14th, running an 18:37.60, Zach O’Brien was 24th (19:11.00), Jace Miller 25th (19:33.60), Spencer Cramer was 26th (19:34.40) and Waylon Ricker was 27th (19:39.71). Scott City will run at the Lakin Invitational on Saturday, October 12.

In Ulysses, Scott City was looking to continue their run in GWAC play, as they faced Ulysses and Hugoton in their second of three GWAC triangulars. It would be a tight game with the Lady Tigers to begin, but the Lady Beavers woudl prevail 25-21, 26-24 for their second win against them this year. Scott City would struggle against Hugoton, and dropped their first league match of the year in a pair of 25-22 sets. The Lady Beavers are now 12-8 overall, 3-1 in GWAC play, as they will host the Scott City Invitational on Saturday at 9 am at the Scott Community Events Center. They’ll face Lakin, Norton, Wheatland/Grinnell and tournament newcomer Garden Plain in pool play. Other teams in the tournament include Goodland, Phillipsburg, Wichita County, Lebo and TMP Marian.
