Beavers head to Wray in a top 5 matchup
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–An early season test awaits for Scott City, as they will head in to Colorado to take on the Wray Eagles in a battle of top five teams in their respective classifications.
Wray is 2-0 on the season, and ranked No. 1 in Class 1A in Colorado, after they defeated Goodland 56-21 at home last Friday night. The Eagles were down 21-14 in the second quarter, before they scored 42 unanswered points. Wray returns 10 starters on both sides of the ball for a team that went 8-4 last year, as they are led by Casey Midcap, who has rushed for 204 yards and five touchdowns, and passed for three more, while Samuel Meisner has rushed for 204 yards and four touchdowns. They average 353 yards of offense, with 276 coming on the ground, and 49 points per game in their first two games, while yielding seven points a contest. They’ve been stingy on defense, giving up 153 yards and only 30 rush yards in their first two games.
Scott City picked up a 35-0 win over Cimarron to start the season off at 1-0 for an eighth straight season. The No. 5 ranked team in Class 3A got an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdonw from Brooks Bailey to get the scoring started, as they never looked back. Scott City put up 301 yards of offense, with 202 coming on the ground. Camden Vulgamore rushed for 58 yards and passed for 91 in the win, and Kelton Cook had two rushing scores to go along with 41 yards rushing. In the game, they didn’t have a ball carrier with over nine carries. Defensively, the Beavers allowed 132 yards of offense and forced three turnovers, all interceptions. They also allowed just 60 rushing yards.
This will be the third-ever trip for Scott City in to Wray. The Beavers won 28-0 two years ago, and last year, won 54-22 to take a 3-1 series lead over the Eagles.
