GCHS falls in season opener to Manhattan

Garden City, KS (Western Kansas News) – Garden City High School football opened the season with a loss to the Manhattan Indians on Friday, with a final score of 57-21. It was all MHS through the first half, as the Indians blanked the Buffs 57-0 through the first two quarters. Quarterback Carter Aslin passed for two touchdowns and ran for four in the first half, before the second team came in for the second half.

Despite a running clock, the Buffs, who struggled on offense in the first half, began executing more efficiently throughout the last two quarters. Three offensive drives saw three touchdowns for GCHS, a 7-yard touchdown run by Michael Villalobos, a 79-yard scamper for a touchdown by Mario Ruiz, and a 34-yard passing touchdown from Ethan Gomez to Evan Finch midway through the fourth quarter.
