Scott City girls tennis 1st at Cimmaron, cross country teams second at Goodland, girls golf competes at Hugoton

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The fall sports season is in full swing and on Thursday, three of the fall sports were able to compete in their sports’ invitationals. Girls tennis resumed a tournament in Cimarron that was postponed from the previous Thursday, and came away with a tournament tile, while the cross country teams opened their season with a second place finish in Goodland, and girls golf played in Hugoton.

Starting off with girls tennis, the Lady Beavers won the Cimarron Invitiational on Thursday that resumed from August 29. Despite not having a champion, Scott City won the meet with 24 points, while Ulysses and Hays had 20 points each. Ulysses won the tiebreaker and finished in second. At No. 1 Singles, Marisa Alvarado finished second, as did the No. 1 Doubles team of Finley Edwards/Kaylee Felker and the No. 2 Doubles team of Ella Frank/Brilynn Lopez. At No. 2 Singles, Taylor Koehn finished in fourth place. Scott City will be at Hoisington on Tuesday.

In Goodland, the Scott City country teams started out the year with a pair of second place team finishes. On the boys side, Lakin won the meet with 39 points, with Scott City in second with 55 points and Norton was third with 75 points. Leading the way was Michael Hermosillo, who placed fourth with a time of 17:59.8. Logan Stoppel placed seventh with a time of 18:18.2, followed by Kasten Wren placing 10th with a time of 18:49.6. Jace Miller was 19th (19:29.7), Zach O’Brien 21st (19:37.2), Waylon Ricker 26th (20:05.5), and Emilio Alarcon was 31st (20:44.3). For the girls, Norton edge the Lady Beavers by three points, as the Bluejays had 33 points and Scott City finished with 36 points and Goodland was third with 69 points. Belle Trout paced the Lady Beavers with a fourth place finish in a time of 22:06.1, Brailey Cook was eighth in a time of 22:23.9 and Halle Erazo was 11th with a time of 22:49.1. Maci Lara finished in 15th place (23:49.8), Hannah Winter was 18th (24:38.5), Kami Winderlin finished 27th (26:09.7) and Jayden O’Brien was 28th (27:43.5). Scott City will run at Hesston next Thursday.

Girls golf took place in Hugoton at Forewinds Golf Course on Thursday. Playing would be Maile Depperschmidt, as she tied for 22nd with a score of 120. Goodland won the team title, and Colby placed second. Scott City will be at the Goodland Invitational on Monday.
