Passing lane project to begin in Meade County
Meade County, Kan.–The Kansas Department of Transportation is announcing traffic changes for a passing lane project are anticipated to start on Monday, August 5, along U.S. Highway 54 from the Meade/Seward county line east for 1.5 miles west of Plains.
The traffic changes are needed to allow for passing lanes to be constructed.
U.S. 54 traffic will be reduced to one lane through the 1.5-mile-long project area. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes as flaggers and a pilot car direct one-lane traffic through the work zone. The lane reduction will be marked by signs and cones. U.S. 54 will be open to normal traffic when construction is not taking place.
J&R Sand, of Liberal, is the contractor on this $6.5 million project.
Weather permitting, it is expected to be completed by the end of November.
