Train derailment forces near Charleston cancellation of Amtrack services
BNSF has announced that a train derailed in southwest Kansas on Wednesday has impacted schedules for Amtrack.
In a release from BNSF, On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at approximately 03:30 PM. CDT, we received a preliminary report of a train derailment near Charleston, KS which has affected the main track. Charleston, KS is approximately 35 miles west of Dodge City, Kansas. BNSF personnel are responding to assess the affected area. The estimated time for opening the main track has not been determined at this time.
According to a social media post from Amtrack, Train 3 which which departed Chicago on 7/24, is canceled between Kansas City and Los Angeles. No alternate transportation will be provided.
Also for Train 4, which departed Los Angeles on 07/23, is canceled between La Junta and Kansas City. No alternate transportation will be provided.
