Scott City tennis 7th in Class 4A State

Topeka, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Beaver tennis team wrapped up their season on Friday and Saturday at the Class 4A State Tennis meet, held at the Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka. It would be a good weekend overall for the team, as they finished seventh overall at the state meet.

Buhler would win their first state title, as the Crusaders finished with 40 points, while Independence was second with 35 points and placing third with 24 points was Parsons. They were followed by Bishop Miege with 23 points, both McPherson and Winfield tied for fifth with 22 points and Scott City had 10.

The Beavers got an eighth place finish from Avry Noll. He was defeated in his first match on Friday, but came back to win two straight on Friday to advance on to competition Saturday. Noll won his first match, but would drop his final two matches to place eighth.

Houston Frank would win his first match of the day on Friday, but drop his second round match. He would go on to win his next two matches to earn a state medal. While Frank fell in his first two matches on Saturday, he would bounce back and take the 11th place match, and defeated the same opponent who knocked him out of the championship side on Friday.

The Dobules team of Sage Stoecklein/Ayden Presson would have a tough day on Friday, as they would lose both of their matches.

Scott City will lose a senior class that produced some of the best tennis in a four-year run in program history, as all four state qualifiers were seniors.
