Lady Beaver softball wins two at Southwestern Heights

Plains, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver softball team ran their win streak to eight, after a pair of wins on the road on Friday, winning 17-3 and 18-2 at Southwestern Heights.

In the opener, the Lady Beavers led 3-0 through the first three innings, before they opened things up in the final four innings, scoring no fewer than three runs in the final four frames. They led 6-0 before the Lady Mustangs scored in the bottom of the fourth, and led 12-1 in the sixth, when Southwestern Heights plated two runs. Scott City finished the scoring off with five runs in the top of the seventh for the win.

Cheyenne Cramer picked up her 600th career strikeout in the first game of the day, as she gave up three runs, two earned, on eight hits and had 16 strikeouts out of the 21 outs. She also had two hits and drove in four runs. Malorie Cupp hit a home run and was a triple shy of the cycle, as she drove in three runs. Peyton Gentry also had three RBI in the win. Scott City had 18 hits.

Game two saw the Lady Beavers lead 4-0 through the first three innings, before exploding for a 10-run fourth inning in the 18-2 victory in five innings. Malorie Cupp hit two home runs, both solo shots, while Cheyenne Cramer had a grand slam in the win. Crissa Irvin, Jordynn Kough and Kaylee Felker had two hits and two RBI in the game, while Piper Fox drove in three runs. Baylee Wolkensdorfer got the win, giving up two unearned runs, and had a no-hitter, striking out two in four innings of work. Cramer finished the fifth inning off with a strikeout, and faced five batters. Southwestern Heights scored two runs, despite not collecting the hit. 

At 8-2 on the year, Scott City will host Goodland on Tuesday, and Ellis on Friday.
