Buff Talk, February 26
GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Buff Talk returned, live from Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom, with Garden City High School winter sports closing. Some seasons have already hit their end, while others begin their postseason treks.
Wrestling held its state championship from Park City this past weekend. Buffaloes wrestling coach Carlos Prieto led off the show by talking about his team’s podium finishes and narrow shortcomings in its final competition.
One of the Buffaloes’ standouts was Maya Tarbet, who took home her second consecutive 125-pound state championship. Tarbet joined the show along with freshman Crystal Loera, who took home 40 victories and a podium finish in her first season.
Boys’ wrestling had two of the top wrestlers in the state come up just short. Braydon Pacheco and Matt Long followed up to discuss their state championship bouts and the steps they’re taking to become true leaders in their final seasons.
Girls’ basketball begins its substate schedule Tuesday against Wichita Southeast. Lady Buffaloes’ guards Kaylee McDonald and Alexa Escobedo joined to talk about their respective seasons ahead of playoff basketball.
Thank you so much to coach Prieto and all listed student-athletes for joining Monday’s show. A special thank you goes out to Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom for their great hospitality.
Buff Talk will return after the start of spring sports, airing Mondays from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 on 99.9 ‘The Rock’.
