Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two former MSAA rivals clashed Friday night at Scott Community High School between the TMP-Marian Monarchs and the Scott City Beavers. Both teams would end up with one win each, as the Lady Monarchs hold off a late comeback attempt by the Beavers in a 51-49 win, while the Scott City boys blasted TMP 84-53.

TMP-Marian jumped out to a five-point lead, and ended up leading 20-15 after a high scoring first quarter. That would soon be gone in a minute, as the Lady Monarchs used a 6-0 run of their own to take a 28-22 lead late in the first half, and ended up leading at the break 30-28. After the Lady Monarchs led 44-35 with 6:21 remaining, Scott City scored eight straight, and pulled to within a point at 44-43 with 1:44 left. That would be the closest it would get, as the Lady Monarchs would put the game away at the foul line, and a costly turnover with a little over 30 seconds remaining would end a Lady Beaver comeback. TMP-Marian (5-11) was paced by Heather Ruder’s 25 points, 15 in the first quarter, while Jenna Shuckman pitched in 12.
