Hillsboro, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Hillsboro Trojan Classic, like several touraments in the state, had an altered schedule this week. This year’s tournament would be a Thursday-Saturday format. Holcomb will see their boys in to the championship game, while the girls will play for third.
On Thursday, the Lady Longhorns were in a low-scoring affair with the Riley County Falcons, a Class 3A state tournament team from a year ago. Holcomb would pull out the 30-28 win over the Lady Falcons to advance to Friday’s semi-final matchup against the No. 5 team in 3A in Hesston. It would be a tough Friday for the Lady Longhorns, as they fell to the Lady Swathers 62-38. Holcomb is 8-3 on the year, as they take on Clay Center in the third place game at 2:30 pm on Saturday.
For the boys, the Longhorns have looked good over the first two days. Their tournament opener on Thursday saw Holcomb dismantle the Eureka Tornadoes 65-14. Friday’s matchup put them up against the Remington Broncos. In a more competitive game, the Longhorns would pull away for a 55-37 victory. Holcomb will face Hesston in the championship game on Saturday at 7:30 pm. The Longorns are now 7-4, as they take on the No. 4 team in Class 3A.
