Dodge City woman dies in weather-related accident
Gray County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A Dodge City woman died in a two-vehicle accident just after 8 am Thursday morning in Gray County. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 56 less than a mile northeast of Copeland.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol report, a 2021 Kia Sportage driven by 59-year-old Angela C Rodriguez of Dodge City was westbound on U.S. Highway 56, when she lost control due to slush on the highway, and was struck by an eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 32-year-old Margatha Wiebe of Sublette. The Rodriguez vehicle came to rest in the south ditch, while the Wiebe vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane.
Rodgriuez was prounounced dead at the scene, while Wiebe was taken to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Dodge City for a suspected minor injury. She had six minor children in the vehicle, which are juvenile protected data.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, according to the KHP report.
