Scott City wraps up homestand with bout with TMP Marian
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It’s the final tune-up for district play for both teams, as Scott City plays host the Monarchs of TMP Marian at Darner Field.
TMP-Marian is off to a 3-0 start for a second consecutive year, after a 36-28 win over the Plainville Cardinals last Friday night in Hays. The Monarchs would take leads of 8-6, 14-12, and 22-20 after the first three quarters, but had to rally for 14 straight in the fourth period to pick up the win. So far this year, TMP has been a run-heavy offense, as they average over 275 yards on the ground, and around 340 yards per game. The offense has averaged 36 points per contest, while holding opponents to 14 points per game, with one shutout. Defensively, the Monarchs are giving up a little over 150 yards per game. Griffin Schumacher has nine touchdowns and over 500 rushing yards to pace them.
Scott City fell for the first time in 2023 last Friday, in a 6-0 setback to the Millwood Falcons. The Beavers outgained the Falcons by around 280-106, but turned the ball over three times and committed eight penalties in the game. Millwood’s lone score came in the third quarter after a scoreless first half. Through three games, Scott City is averaging 36 points and nearly 450 yards of offense, using a balanced attack, while giving up just over 200 yards and 14 points per game. Collin McDaniel has over 300 rushing yards and over 200 receiving yards with seven total touchdowns so far.
This is the 26th meeting between the two schools, with Scott City holding the advantage 17-7-1. The Beavers have won nine straight in the series. Both teams will begin district play next Friday, as each team has the rest of their district opponents beginning district play tonight.
