Scott City opens home slate with Wray
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two teams that have shown explosive offense early in the season will meet up at Darner Field, as the Wray Eagles make their first trip to Scott City in 28 years to face the Beavers on the brand new field turf.
Wray is 2-0 on the season, following a 52-14 win at Goodland last Friday night. The Eagles trailed after the first play of the game 6-0, and racked up 52 points and 442 yards of offense in the win. Samuel Meisner rushed for 315 yards and six touchdowns in the win, and is currently the top rusher in the state with 439 yards and eight touchdowns in two games. Defensively, the Wray has allowed around 200 yards of offense per contest, with just under 50 yards per game on the ground. The Eagles have several new faces on both sides of the ball, and are coming off a Class 1A state runner-up finish in Colorado. They’re currently ranked No. 2 in Class 1A.
Scott City racked up 551 yards of offense in a 49-13 win at Cimarron to open up their season last Friday night. The Beavers trailed 7-0 after the first quarter in a game where they had just two offensive snaps and four yards, compared to the 20 for the Bluejays in the game’s opening 12 minutes. A 21-point second quarter, and a 20-point third quarter put the game away for Scott City, as they scored 41 straight points in the game. They held Cimarron to 257 yards of offense, with 99 yards coming in the fourth quarter on one drive. Collin McDaniel had two rushing touchdowns and 216 yards on the ground, and added three receptions, with two receiving touchdowns in the game in the win, as the Beaver offense rolled up 403 yards on the ground.
This is the fourth meeting between the teams, with Scott City holding a 2-1 edge in the series. So far, the road team has won each game, as the Beavers shout out Wray 28-0 last season. In 1995, the Eagles won in Scott City 21-0.
