Broncbusters Men’s Basketball Adds Tulsa Center Ahead of 2023 Season.

Garden City, KS – Rebuilding after losing six players from last season to division one, head coach Rusty Elmore added a third division one transfer going into his second season with the Broncbusters.

Garden City announced the addition of former Tulsa Golden Hurricane Charles Chukwu on Thursday. 

Chukwu, a center from Paetow High School in Texas, averaged 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 30 appearances for the Golden Hurricane. 

The Katy, Texas native also scored 15 points in American Athletic Conference appearances, setting his career-high of nine points against Central Florida in February.

Tulsa finished 5-25 in the 2022-23 season, winning just one game in AAC play. 

Chukwu had a decorated career for Paetow High. He emerged as a junior, winning the District 19-5A MVP. Chukwu also led the Panthers to a 31-6 record as a senior and received UIL Class 5A Region 3 honors. 

Chukwu joins Hartford guard Braxton Jones and San Diego center Bol Kuir as the third Broncbuster to join from a division one school last season.

The Broncbusters finished 2022-23 with a 21-9 record under first year head coach Rusty Elmore. Last season’s center, Buru Naivalurua, led the Jayhawk Conference in rebounds and blocks per game.

Garden City opens their season on Wednesday, November 1st against McCook Community College at Conestoga Arena.
