Andale leads Class 4A after day 1; Scott City’s Frank in the finals
Salina, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The first day of the Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament saw several upsets. Some of those upsets possibly made a twist in the team title race.
Andale pushed five through to the finals, and took a 37-point lead over Rose Hill after the opening day. The Rockets got four into the finals, but have several left on the consolation side. Paola is in third place after the first day. Scott City was 11th, Ulysses 25, and Holcomb & Hugoton were tied for 37th. after the opening day.
Out of the 13 area wrestlers that qualified for state, only two were eliminated. There is one area wrestler that advanced to Saturday’s championship final. Scott City’s Houston Frank knocked off the top-ranked wrestlers and the fifth-ranked wrestler, en route to Saturday’s championship. Justin Degollado advanced to the semi-finals, but fell short. The four-time state qualifier will still medal, and will be in the consolation semi-finals.
Day two of the tournament will begin at 9 am Saturday, with the consolation second round.
