Garden City PD participating in SAFE Seatbelt Enforcement Campaign
Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Garden City Police Department will be joining other law enforcement agencies in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma to raise awareness of roadway safety.
Starting Monday, February 20, and continuing through March 3, the Garden City Police Department will join other law enforcement agencies with increased enforcement near high schools to raise awareness on roadway safety.
The seatbelt enforcement emphasis is hosted by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the SAFE (Seatbelts Are For Everyone) Program.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens of 15 to 18-year-olds in the United States, ahead of all other types of injury, disease, or violence. Pay attention to what you are doing by following speed limits, eliminate distractions, and buckle up.
Citations will be issued to anyone who refuses to obey the traffic laws, whether it is for speeding, texting, or failing to buckle up. Please remind teens that driving is a privilege and encourage them to learn about the importance of driving safely.
SAFE is a free, student-led program for high school students focusing on peer-to-peer promotion of traffic safety. Through education, rewards, and enforcement, SAFE highlights the importance of wearing a seatbelt, driving alert, and following traffic laws with the goal of decreasing the number of teen injuries and deaths from vehicle crashes.
