Lady Demons fall to Clearwater 49-38 in opening round of Mid America Classic
MCPHERSON–Carli Carlson knocked down five first-half threes and Clearwater never trailed in a 49-38 win over Dodge City in the opening round of the Mid America Classic Thursday at McPherson’s Roundhouse.
Carlson was the only Lady Indian to attempt a 3-pointer all night and made her first five tries from distance. She was 5-of-9 overall in the contest and finished with a game-high 19 points.
Dodge City put up more threes than average thanks to the deficit throughout and finished 5-of-21 in that category. They shot just 32% as a team from the field.
The Lady Demons also only attempted free throws in the game. They had difficulty dealing with the size and length of Clearwater, and though they out-rebounded the Lady Indians 36-26–including 14 offensive rebounds–the Demons struggled to consistently stop their big front-court.
Three players for Dodge City reached double figures, with Becca Unruh scoring 14 points, Easha Potts 12 and Ashlyn Lembright 11. Alex Gere pulled down 11 rebounds for the Demons.
The Lady Demons fall to 4-7 with the loss and return to action Friday when they battle Olathe South in the loser’s bracket of the Mid American Classic. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. CT.
