Conq women mount 2nd half comeback at Coffeyville; men worn down, lose 3rd straight

COFFEYVILLE–Landon Glasper scored 26 points off the bench and sparked the parade of threes for No. 14 Coffeyville’s men in a 94-78 win over No. 13 Dodge City, while the 12th-ranked Conq women erased a nine point halftime deficit to overcome the Red Ravens 73-66 in a doubleheader at Nellis Hall.
In the men’s game, Glasper made all five of his triples in the first half and went into the break with 17 points. Coffeyville made 12 threes overall, nine of which came before halftime.
The Red Ravens jumped out to an early lead and paced the way for the final 35 minutes of the contest without trailing. The second half was a bit uglier, but the Ravens were able to make 22-of-28 free throw tries, marking one of their most accurate nights as a team all season.
3-point shooting doomed Dodge City, as the Conqs connected on only 2 of their 14 attempts in the game.
Chris Robinson led the Conqs with 20 points, and was one of five to score in double figures. Jacobi Sebock scored 14 points, Jason Edwards had 12, Shawn Warrior 11 and DJ Jones 11.
The No. 13 Conquistadors fall to 14-6 (10-4 KJCCC) with the loss and return to action Saturday when they host Seward. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
In the women’s game, Dodge City started the game on a 9-0 run, but Coffeyville quickly responded with seven straight of their own and gripped a nine point edge before halftime with a barrage of 3-pointers. The Conqs then started the second half strong much like the first, and began on an 8-0 run to take the lead.
Dodge posted one of their lowest marks from beyond the arc this year, shooting a paltry 8-for-35. But they valued the ball well and only committed nine turnovers, while Coffeyville gave 17 possessions away. It was one of the few statistical advantages in the game for the Conqs.
Jenna Rose and Leah Mafua combined for 32 points to lead Dodge City, while Bree Stephens added 16.
Wednesday’s win marked the 11th consecutive win for Dodge City.
The No. 12 Conquistadors improve to 18-2 (13-1 KJCCC) with the win and return to action Saturday when they host Seward. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
