Demons blown out in second half by Bishop Carroll
DODGE CITY–Mikey Brand and Van Haneberg combined for 33 of Bishop Carroll’s 58 points, and a strong second half allowed the Golden Eagles to rout Dodge City 58-34 Friday in the loser’s bracket of the Tournament of Champions at United Wireless Arena.
Brand posted a double-double for Bishop Carroll with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He and Haneberg were the only two players to score in the first half for the Golden Eagles.
Dodge City trailed by only six points at the halftime break, but a 20-7 third quarter–which included a 15-0 Bishop Carroll run–helped the Eagles bust it open and pull away for a big victory.
Dodge was led in scoring by Austin Schulte with seven points.
Carroll used 19 Demon turnovers and converted those into 22 points, which was the main culprit of the second-half damage.
The Red Demons fall to 4-7 with the loss and return to action Saturday when they take on Newton in the seventh-place game of the Tournament of Champions. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT.
