Conqs sweep Colby
DODGE CITY–Dodge City’s men used a strong offensive start and 26 points from Jason Edwards for a 92-78 win over Colby, while Jada Burton tallied a triple-double to lead the Conq women in an 87-60 rout over the Trojans in a doubleheader Saturday at the Student Activities Center.
In the men’s game, Dodge City connected on a season-high 12 threes while holding Colby to just under 39% from the field.
Edwards’ 26 points came from an efficient 11-for-16 shooting, including 4-of-7 from distance to go along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Four other Conqs scored in double figures, including 16 from Jacobi Sebock, 11 each from Cam Malray and Avnoor Bhullar, and 10 from DJ Jones.
At one point in the second half, the Conquistadors stretched the lead to as wide as 26 with 7:59 remaining before the Trojans narrowed the gap slightly ahead of the final whistle.
Dodge City now owns a two-game lead in the KJCCC standings.
The No. 8 Conquistadors improve to 13-3 (9-1 KJCCC) with the win and return to action Wednesday when they host Pratt. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
In the women’s game, Burton stole the show against a hapless Trojan team that’s struggled their way to the tune of just one win thus far. Burton finished with 20 points, a career-high 12 assists, and 11 rebounds.
Dodge City led wire-to-wire after starting the game on a 12-0 run.
Four other Conqs reached double figures, including Jenna Rose Magua with 16 points, Georgia Gray and Paris Santacaterina with 15 points, and a double-double from Shakara Anderson, who had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Saturday’s win marked Dodge City’s seventh straight overall, 11th straight at home and the 15th in the last 21 meetings with Colby.
