Demons swept at Wichita Southeast in GWAL/WAC Challenge
WICHITA–Dodge City’s boys struggled to handle Southeast’s full-court press early, resulting in 25 turnovers in a 68-31 loss, and the Lady Demons trailed the entire way, falling to the Golden Buffaloes 51-39 Saturday.
In the boys game, Southeast turned those 25 Red Demon turnovers into 26 points, most of which came in transition. They also racked up 16 second chance points in the contest.
Dodge City struggled from the field, shooting just under 28% for the game, a stark contrast to 51% shooting in their lone win of the season at Woodward Tuesday.
The only Demon to reach double figures was Layton Blatnick, who tallied 10 points thanks to a 7-for-8 performance from the free throw line. The team shot a combined 12-of-14, their best performance in that category all season.
The Red Demons fall to 1-4 with the loss and return to action Tuesday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Garden Plain. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
In the girls game, the Lady Demons never led thanks to an early 10-0 Buffalo run. Similarly to the boys, they also faltered consistently from the field, going just 30% for the game and a paltry 0-for-13 from behind the arc.
Dodge City went on an 8-1 run in the second half to make things interesting, but Southeast quickly responded with a couple buckets and the lead swelled to double digits again, never to shrink below 10 again.
Southeast dominated the boards 41-29, including 18 offensive rebounds.
Dodge City’s Easha Potts had a team-high 17 points and seven rebounds.
The Lady Demons fall to 1-4 with the loss and return to action Wednesday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Garden Plain. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
