Huge 3rd quarter gives Buffs late boost to takedown Lakewood in Coronado
Colorado Springs, CO (WesternKansasNews.com) – Pressure, pressure, pressure, that’s always the message from Garden City head coach Jeff Williamson and his Buffaloes did just that en route to another 70+ point outing for Garden City. The Buffaloes picked up another win in Colorado Springs 78-34 over Lakewood (CO) on Friday afternoon.
The Buffaloes were slow to get moving in the first quarter and even trailing at the break 19-17 but picked up the pieces over the next 24 minutes to really pull ahead. At the half, the score was 36-26 Garden City but that’s when Jace Steinmetz had himself a second half. After a 7-point 1st half he added the other 22 of his total 29 points to help the Buffaloes pull ahead. “When Jace is on it helps us so much, we know he always going to be the focus of the defense but when he’s able to score like that it gives us so many opportunities to score around him. Garden City’s best quarter came in the 3rd when they outscored Lakewood 28-5. “It felt like in that quarter our pressure really broke them down, you add that with the ability to make shots it gave us a lot of confidence to close out the game,” said Williamson about his team’s impressive 3rd quarter.
Around Jace Steinmetz, Caleb Wiese had 11 pts and Iziah Salinas added 8 points. The pressure has led to offense and that has led to wins for Garden City. After starting 2-0 in Coronado they have a chance to go 3-0 with a matchup against Palmer Ridge. Tipoff is estimated for 2 pm and will start at the conclusion of the Garden City girl’s basketball game. You can listen to the Buffs on 99.9 “The Rock”.
