Conq women roll in season opener

LEVELLAND–Dodge City used balanced scoring and a strong paint presence to roll Coastal Bend 99-67 in the first game of the South Plains College Classic at the Texas Dome Friday.

The Conqs had six players score in double figures, including four starters. Kianna Lemons led the way with 17 points off the bench.

Dodge City dominated in the paint, outscoring Coastal Bend 56-22 in that category. They also owned the boards, winning the rebound battle 54-31.

After trailing 17-14 at the end of the first quarter, Dodge City began their push to pull ahead, and took the lead for good in the second stanza. They held a 13 point lead at the break, and that lead only grew in the second half.

Taryanna McNary was the only Cougar to reach double figures. She posted the game’s only double-double, scoring 16 points and adding 10 rebounds.

The Conquistadors improve to 1-0 with the win.

Dodge City returns to action Saturday when they take on No. 8 South Plains in the final game of the South Plains College Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
