Scott City volleyball picks up dual win
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team returned to the Scott Community Events Center on Tuesday evening for a dual with the Southwestern Heights Mustangs in a match that could see both teams be in the same sub-state come October. Scott City would start a busy week with a win, taking down the Lady Mustangs 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 25-19.
Southwestern Heights would jump out early in the match on the Lady Beavers, opening up an 8-2 lead. Then the Scott City offense started up and rolled. The Lady Beavers would go on an 8-1 run to take their first lead in the set 10-9. After the Lady Mustangs took a 13-11 lead midway through the set, Scott City ran the table for the rest of the set, going on a 14-4 run to take a 25-17 set one victory.
In the second set, Southwestern Heights would use a 6-1 run to lead 7-5 early on. And after the set was tied at 10, the Lady Mustangs would go on a run to build their lead to 22-18 late in the set. Scott City was unable to get any closer than two points and eventually lost the set 25-22.
The third set saw four ties and three lead changes. Southwestern Heights would lead 12-10, before a furious Lady Beaver run of 13-1 pushed the Scott City lead to 23-12, before taking the set 25-15.
In the fourth set, the Lady Mustangs would lead early on, but it would be the Lady Beavers taking over. Trailing 3-2, Scott City scored the next six points to go up 8-3 and never looked back. They would lead by as many as seven at 13-6, and would cruise to the set four win and the match 25-19.
Megan Trout had 14 kills and two service aces in the win, while Hannah Tucker also added 14 kills. Dayanara Castillo added eight kills and four service aces and Priscilla Peregrino added three aces.
Up next for Scott City is a GWAC Triangular at Hugoton on Thursday and the Scott City Invitational on Saturday.
