Garden City sweeps Scott in Volleyball Dual
Garden City, Kan. (WesternKansasNews.Com) – Garden City volleyball head coach Trista Bailey felt like an improved offensive speed of the game would help the Buffaloes on Tuesday. It certainly did in a best 3 out of 5 match vs. Scott where Garden City really never was challenged.
The Beavers had trouble all night holding off the serve-receive and setting up their attack. Some highlight performances from Garden City included a double-double from sophomore Piper Harris, she had 13 kills and 11 digs. She also added 4 aces from the service line as she rolled to her fourth career double-double. Sophomore Aleeya Cruz was also strong from the service line adding 4 aces and 15 assists.
Other strong performances from Garden City included 17 assists and 3 aces from Junior Lexi Arwine. Senior Mackenzie Lucas added 8 kills and Kamdyn Carr had 7 kills. The offense provided plenty of balance even though coach Bailey said she would like to see it sped up. “It was a faster start for us, I felt like I liked the speed but would still like to see it a little faster”. The final result was a 3-set win (25-17, 25-12, and 25-17) for the Buffaloes.
Garden City has now won 9 of its last 10 matches with the lone loss in that stretch coming against Liberal. They will have a chance to avenge that loss next Tuesday in a tri-meet at Dodge City that will also feature the Redskins.
