Road Construction to begin June 27 in Spearville

FORD COUTNY, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) –

Traffic changes are scheduled to start Monday, June 27, along U.S. 50/56 in Spearville, for a construction project from west of Main Street on U.S. 50/56 from the Davis Street/U.S. 50 intersection and will extend half a mile east to the intersection of Clark Street/U.S. 50, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The westbound shoulder will be utilized through the project area to maintain normal eastbound and westbound traffic on U.S. 50 during the project. Motorists should be aware of the reduction of the speed limit to 50 mph. The lane shift will be marked by signs and cones

The project will widen the highway to add center turning lanes onto intersections. This project consists of two phases. Phase one will be the addition of the turning lane for the intersection of Main Street and U.S. 50.  Access to Main Street from U.S. 50 will be closed during this phase.  The second phase, which is expected to start in mid-August, will be the addition of the turning lane for the intersection of Clark Street and U.S. 50. Access to Clark Street from U.S. 50 will be closed during this phase.

APAC, of Hutchinson, is the contractor on this $2.7 million project, which is expected to be completed by mid-October, weather permitting.
