Lady Beaver softball blanks Lakin
Ingalls, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Playing as a top seed, the spotlight is going to be the brightest on you. The spotlight didn’t bother Scott City on Tuesday, as they opened up regional play with a 15-0 win in four innings over the Lakin Lady Broncs in the Class 3A Regional in Ingalls, hosted by Cimarron.
Scott City plated three runs in the bottom of the first, as Amber Latta scored on a one-out error, and Tori Ford brought Malorie Cupp home on a sacrifice fly. Mackayla Miller would single in Cheyenne Cramer. In the second inning, the Lady Beavers would send 12 to bat, and open up the margin to 10-0. Rhiley Stoppel and Melany Duff would cap off the scoring in the inning on a pair of RBI singles. Scott City added two runs in the third and closed the game out with three runs, as Hannah Tucker scored on a wild pitch to make the final 15-0.
Cheyenne Cramer surrendered two walks, but didn’t allow a hit and had eight strikeouts in 61 pitches in four innings. Tori Ford had a pair of RBI sacirifice flies in the win, as Scott City had five hits. Moriah Ortiz went four and a third innings, allowing 15 runs, just one earned, on five hits, but walked seven batters. Lakin would commit seven errors in the loss.
At 18-1, Scott City will face Goodland Tuesday afternoon at 3 pm in Ingalls. The Cowgirls took down Haskell County 9-1 in the first game of the day. Holcomb defeated Hugoton 3-0 and Cimarron/Ingalls took out Southwestern Heights 8-6 in the finale. Holcomb will take on Cimarron/Ingalls in the second semi-final game on Tuesday, with the winners meeting in the championship game.
