Scott City tennis wins Hoisington quad, softball takes two in Plains

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a good Thursday for Scott City tennis and softball, as they returned to play, as tennis was in Hoisington, while softball was in Plains, facing Southwestern Heights. The tennis squad would eek out a victory, while the Lady Beaver softball squad picked up a pair of run rule wins of 15-0 and 17-0.

In Hoisington, Scott City edged out Trego and Central Plains for the team title. The Beavers had 18 points, while Trego had 17 and Central Plains finished with 16 points. Brody Strine at No. 2 Singles would finish first, as would the No. 2 Doubles team of Kalo Hineman/Eric Shapland. Placing second was Avry Noll at No. 1 Singles, and Benjamin Resendiz, who was playing unattached. The No. 1 Doubles team of Dante Franco/Ayden Presson finished fourth. Scott City will be at the Garden City invitational on Saturday.

For softball, the Lady Beavers kept the season going well on Thursday with a pair of wins at Southwestern Heights. Their first game saw them score all of their runs in the first two innings, en route to a 15-0 win. Cheyenne Cramer drove in four runs, and hit a home run, while Rhiley Stoppel went yard as well. Madison Miller had three hits and drove in two. Cramer had her third perfect game of the year, throwing only 30 pitches in three innings of work, with five strikeouts. Scott City jumped out to a 6-0 lead to open up game two, on their way to a 17-0 win in four innings against the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Beavers had 19 hits in the win, as Cheyenne Cramer had a three-hit, three RBI performance at the plate, with a home run. Mackayla Miller had two hits and three RBI, including a home run, and Hannah Tucker had three hits and drove in four runs. Cramer gave up just one hit and struck out six in four innings of work. Scott City is now 12-0 on the year, with two big home doubleheaders next week, as they host Goodland on Tuesday and Liberal on Thursday.
