Colby girls, Lakin boys win team titles at 85th Scott City Relays

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–As it has been all season, the wind was a factor again on Tuesday for the 85th Annual Scott City Relays held at Darner Field. The 19-team field was able to compete in 17 of the 18 events originally scheduled, as pole vault was cancelled due to the high winds. In the end, there would be a pair of new team champions. The Colby girls held off Scott City in the end to win the girls title, while the Lakin boys would be 30 points better than Scott City in the boys division

Individually from the area, Stanton County’s Chesney Peterson turned in some good runs with wins in the 800 and 1600 meter runs, while Clare Hawkins from Scott City was the champion in the 3200. The Lady Beavers won the 4x800M Relay and saw Madison Westergard win the discus. Lakin’s Ann Sophie Vanderknaap win the high jump.

On the boys side, Lakin’s Brady Hendrix took the 100 and 200 meter titles, and was on the winning 4x100M Relay. The Broncs would win seven of the events, as Lawson Beymer won the 800M run, and Colter Oldham won the discus and high jump. They also saw Tyler Tarpley take the 300M hurdle title. Scott City won the 4×400 and 4x800M Relay titles, and saw Efren Tarango anchor those races, to go along with his win in the 400M dash. Sublette would get wins in the long jump and triple jump from Miguel Hernandez and Tristan Friesen, while Stanton County’s Kamryn Golub won the 3200M run and Ben Scott from Ulysses was the 110M High Hurdle champion.
