USD 457 Names Dr. Mike Dominguez New Superintendent
GARDEN CITY, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – Dr. Mike Dominguez will begin his leadership of USD 457 on June 1, 2022.
The USD 457 Board of Education has announced the selection of Dr. Mike Dominguez, as the new superintendent of Garden City Public Schools. Dr. Dominguez will take the reins on June 1, 2022, after the retirement of Dr. Steve Karlin at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
Dr. Dominguez has the broad educational experience, as the superintendent of schools, Stratford ISD, Stratford, Texas. He is currently in his fifth year in that position. Previously Dr. Dominguez served as Assistant Superintendent of Premier Charter High Schools in Lewisville, Texas for two years and principal at Vernon High School for two years, and assistant principal role for 10 years. He has 32 years of experience in education.
USD 457 Board President, Jennifer Standley, says that Dr. Dominguez emerged from a very thorough search process as the right candidate to lead Garden City Public Schools. “The Board is certain in our choice of Dr. Dominguez and confident that under his leadership USD 457 will continue to be recognized as an educational leader in Western Kansas in preparing our students to be career or college-ready.
Standley, explained that community input, including the involvement of stakeholders, was a key factor in the success of the superintendent search process. The committees included teachers and administrators, parents and community members. “The input from the community as a whole was very helpful to our process of selecting the next superintendent.”
The Board selected three finalists, who were interviewed by the Board.
“As a board, we feel we made the right selection to serve our students and our community,” said Standley.
