Teenager In Critical Condition After Head-On Crash With Light Pole

GARDEN CITY, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – On March 12, 2022, at around 3:10 A.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department, Garden City Fire Department, and Finney County EMS were dispatched to the area of N. Main Street and Fulton Street for a reported injury accident.

Upon arrival, Officers located a Chevrolet Trailblazer in the 300 block of N. 8th Street with extensive front-end damage, appearing to have struck a light pole and tree. Officers located the driver, identified as Alexander Samuel Martinez (19), Garden City, KS, in the front seat.

Martinez was not wearing a seat belt and had to be extricated from the vehicle. Martinez
was transported to St. Catherine’s Hospital for treatment and later flown to Colorado due to
the extent of his injuries.

The investigation revealed Martinez was traveling southbound in the 400 block of N. 8th
Street when his vehicle veered off the roadway and onto the sidewalk before striking a light
pole. The vehicle continued south on the sidewalk and struck a tree, which caused the vehicle
to spin and come to a stop in the roadway. Traffic was diverted from the scene for approximately three hours. The investigation is ongoing.
