Scott City selects Hayes as its next head wrestling coach

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City wrestling has had a solid tradition over the past three-plus decades. So it would only make sense to continue the proud tradition when looking for its next head coach.

Dakota Hayes was recently named as the head wrestling coach for the Scott City Beaver Wrestling program. He is the eighth coach in Scott City wrestling history.

Hayes has been a part of the wrestling coaching staff in Scott City for the past three seasons, and helped with the program during the 2018 run to the Class 3A State Title. This will be his second head wrestling coaching job, as he was the head coach at TMP-Marian for three seasons, prior to coming back to Scott City in the 2017-18 season.

Not only has Hayes served as an assistant in the wrestling program. He has served as an assistant on the football and boys golf teams.

The 2010 SCHS graduate is excited to take over his alma mater, where he also wrestled in the Beaver wrestling program. Scott City returns two state placers from the 2021 Class 4A State Tournament, where the Beavers placed 13th as a team. In addition, five additional sub-state qualifying wrestlers are projected to return from the season, in a year that was considered a “rebuilding” season.

Hayes replaces Aaron Dirks, who will be the next Activities Director/Assistant Principal at Scott Community High School.
