Beaver baseball takes two from Ulysses
Ulysses, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two years ago, Scott City built up momentum during the middle of the year, but had a stunning loss in the first round of regionals. Tuesday afternoon, the Beavers started off hot, as they were able to sweep Ulysses 5-0 and 12-2 to get their 2021 season off strong.
In their 5-0 win, JP Harris would throw a no-hitter, using just 80 pitches. He struck out 11 and didn’t surrender a walk, despite hitting four batters. It was a scoreless game through the first three innings, when Scott City would score three runs in the fourth and added two in the seventh. The Beavers had five hits in the game, and Harris would drive in two runs, and Ryan Cure, Blaine Culp and Easton Lorg each had an RBI.
Scott City scored in every inning in their 12-2 win in five innings, due to the 10-run rule. The Beavers scored three runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings, as the Tigers scored a run in the first and second frames. JP Harris had three hits and three RBI, while Easton Lorg had two hits and drove in a run, and Jeffery Nix had a hit and two RBI in the win. Scott City had nine hits in the game. Easton Lorg went two innings on the mound and gave up two unearned runs and struck out six while surrendering one hit, while Brady Welker went two and a third scoreless innings, and gave up one hit while striking out six. Nix faced two batters and struck out one in two thirds of an inning.
Scott City is 2-0 on the year for the first time since 2013, and 2-0 in GWAC play. They’ll host Spearville Thursday afternoon. Ulysses is 0-2 overall, 0-2 in league play, and will travel to Lakin on Thursday.
