GCPD Media Release – Injury Accident
Garden City Police Department
On March 14, 2021, shortly after 9:00 P.M., Officers of the Garden City Police Department, Garden City Fire Department, and Finney County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the 3100 block of E Kansas Avenue for a reported injury accident. Upon arrival, first responders located both vehicles still on the roadway, and traffic had to be diverted in all directions.
The investigation revealed that a Chevrolet Impala, driven by Krystal Horning (36), Garden City, KS, was headed westbound on E Kansas Avenue approaching the intersection of Kansas Avenue and Leslie Road. A Honda Fit, driven by Reeve Skinner (26), Garden City, KS, was headed eastbound on E Kansas Avenue. Both vehicles entered the intersection and collided. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Skinner was not wearing her seat belt and had to be extricated from the vehicle. There were two children inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. A 4-year-old passenger sustained life-threatening injuries, and a 2-year-old passenger received only minor injuries. Horning was also seriously injured.
All four occupants were transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment. Skinner and the 4 year-old child were flown to Kansas City hospitals due to the extent of their injuries. Both vehicles involved were significantly damaged and had to be towed from the scene. For additional information, contact the Kansas Highway Patrol.
