Cimarron girls golf third after day one of state tournament

Cheney, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–It was a cold and cloudy day on the first day of the Class 3-2-1A State Golf tournament held in Cheney at Cherry Oaks Golf Course.

For the second straight year, the tournament is a two-day tournament, but it’s the first time that all the state qualifiers will compete both days.

Cimarron is the lone school from the area with their whole team competing in the meet, and they have gotten off to a good start, finishing in third place after the first day. St. Mary’s Colgan from Pittsburg has an 18-shot lead over Colby for the top spot at 357 to 375, while Cimarron is in third with a team score of 388. Caney Valley is in fourth with a team score of 400.

Individually from the area, Hugoton’s Gillian Heger is sitting in a tie for third place after the first day, with an 18-hole score of 86, and Kennedy Jarnagin from Cimarron is tied for 10th with a score of 93. Cimarron’s Morgan Herkelman shot a 97, good for 16th after the first day. Also from Cimarron, Brayclen Lynn and Jenna Seabolt are in a tie for 21st with a score of 99, Scott City’s Paige Prewit is in a tie for 26th with a score of 101, Hannah Lampe from Syracuse is in a tie for 29th with a 102, and Brielle Lynn from Cimarron is tied for 43rd with a round of 110.

Day two of the state meet will resume at 10 am on Holes one and 10.
