Scott City cross country teams place third at Stanton County
Johnson, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Competing for the first time in two weeks, the Scott City cross country teams returned to the course on Saturday, as they made the trek to Johnson for the Stanton County Invitational. Running shorthanded, both teams faced off against teams that are ranked in their classifications. In the end, both teams would finish third in the team races.
For the boys, Scott City would finish third with 69 points. Stanton County won the meet with 50 and Lakin was second with 58 points. Leading the way for the Beavers was Roberto Apodaca with an eighth place finish in a time of 18:56.90, and Jaxson Kough was 11th, running a 19:12.95. Joe McCleary was 14th (19:29.58), Kevin Dominguez-Peregrino 16th (19:40.31), Dylan Duff placed 26th (20:39.04), Bryndan Bailey finished in 36th (21:39.59) and Eric Shapland placed 46th with a time of 22:15.44.
On the girls side, Scott City placed third as a team with 60 points. Stanton County won with 30 points and Cimarron place second with 56 points. Brinlie Stevens led the way for the Lady Beavers, placing sixth in a time of 22:30.68, and Emma Wheeler was 11th, running a 22:57.71. Megan Vance placed 16th (23:38.51), Kairae Berry 18th (24:00.26), Macy Brown 19th (24:09.41), Clare Hawkins placed 25th with a time of 24:40.40 and Kate Rogers was 36th, running in a time of 26:53.52.
Up next for Scott City will be the Ness City Invitational on Thursday, October 1.
