Eight area wrestlers punch their ticket to state at 4A Regionals
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Four area teams have wrapped up wrestling after day one of the Class 4A Regional Wrestling Tournament. Three of the are teams are in Wellington, including Holcomb, Hugoton and Ulysses, while Scott City is at the Concordia regional.
In Concordia, Scott City has everyone wrestling on Saturday, with five picking up semi-final wins to qualify for state. Kaden Wren at 138, Justus McDaniel at 145, Noah Kliesen at 152, Cale Goodman at 182 and Gabe Bowers at 285 all qualified for state for the Beavers. They sit in second place after the first day.
In Wellington, Holcomb, Hugoton and Ulysses still have all wrestlers remaining on Saturday. Ulysses has qualified two for state in Quentin Pauda at 106, and Ayston Perez at 285. Hugoton has a wrestler qualified in Adam Mendoza at 138 pounds. Andale leads Pratt by four and a half points after day one, while Mulvane is in third. ULysse is in ninth, Hugoton 10th and Holcomb is in 12th.
Day two of regionals will begin at 10 am Saturday. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will qualify for state next weekend in Salina.
